I eat here often and always forget to check in. The food is really good. It's always fresh. The staff is very nice. Especially the older short lady who is typically there in the evenings. Food is really good. No complaints

Best taco joint (and more) in the area. Their steak is cooked to order and always trimmed well. Chips and guacamole are great. In the summer their attached deck is a great place to enjoy your meal surrounded by a pergola and vibrant flowers. All around good spot to get some Mexican food.

Open late and tastes pretty good! Prices are getting a little high for what you're getting but if you're in the mood for Mexican you'll have a good experience. I've been going here for years. Very casual and you'll see the occasional bar hoppers sobering up on burritos late night.

There really is only one reason I eat at this place once in a blue moon. That reason is because they just always screw up my order. The food always tastes great, but I always order with no lettuce, and I always get it. The act of having to peel it off every single time is just annoying. The prices are getting to be a bit on the outrageous side, considering the fact that I never actually get what I want.

Stopped here for an early dinner with my date. a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, but the food was good. She enjoyed her chicken tamales. I got cheese enchiladas mole. Lots of cheese, but the mole was too subtle for my tastes. Service was excellent, and I'd give the food 3.5 stars. We each got a margarita that was very, very weak. I would come here again, but will likely seek out a higher-quality Mexican place for future dates.

This is the best place to go anywhere on the Southside. It is worth the 5 minute detour from 294 to stop in. First off, the table salsa is delicious, chunky and fresh. The chips used to be homemade but I guess they fell victim to budget cuts- its not the end of the world, still better than Tostitos. For your meal, I highly recommend the Pork tacos since they're bbq style and they dont use pineapple. They top them with cilantro and onion to bite through the bbq flavor of the pork, and its phenomenal. The steak tacos are the 2nd best, mostly because the steak is cut fresh right in front of you and its not a bad cut of meat, which is ordinarily the norm at cheap Mexican food joints. The few minutes it took the chef to trim the fat go a long way if you eat Mexican food often. All in all, I really recommend you try this food- its clear that the employees take a few extra minutes during preparation to make sure you DONT get a sinewy, greasy pile of flavorless meat on a mm thick tortilla, and as a patron, I couldn't be more thankful.

Yum...Yum...and more Yum! Went with a group of family and we had a great time. The fajitas and steak and shrimp dinner were amazing! The steak was so tender! The drinks were good.....not as strong as I like...but tasty and reasonably priced! The servers were nice and polite! Cant wait to go back for another fiesta!

Good food, reasonably priced, they take orders online, and the pick-up process is a breeze. The owner is a very nice person, as well. No better Mexican food in the area.

Went here with my girlfriend, I had the steak burrito dinner, and a hard shell taco and she had the carne asada. My burrito was good but it had a lot of lettuce in it, it was more like a lettuce burrito. The taco was really good though. The carne asada was also very good. They waiter was very nice. I would definitely be going back.

How I found myself sitting in the darkly lit booth at La Playita, throwing back Dos Equis like a condemned man, watching baseball ballet flash across the large flat screen that sat above their little bar to a sound track of a high pitched whine from one of the beer coolers and bad Mexican music that seemed to be beamed in via transistor radio straight from México was largely by accident considering I originally had hopes of eating at a Cuban place I found here on YELP but had the unfortunate problem of no longer being in existence (because YELP has this incredible problem of updating things when they go under with a side note being if you are looking for fried chicken don't go to the BROWNS in Hickory Hills because they have fallen to the same fate as the Cubans), that, and for some reason the Chicago suburbs seems to be lacking when it comes to food service and since I had been here once before and hadn't caught food poisoning along with the fact that I was starving I figured I have another go around with their version of Mexican cuisine. The first thing that happened, even before I sat down, was that some nice person stole the parking space that I was waiting for, it wasn't like there wasn't plenty be had, I was just being nice and waiting for them to get out of my way but what is the old saying: "Nice people finish last"? This would be one of those times. But I digress. The first thing you notice upon entering is that La Playita is pretty big, with a large menu that takes up the wall over the counter, from there the restaurant opens up into a seating area. The guy behind the counter asked if this was for here and I said it was, so he told me to grab a seat and he'd be right over which I did. The place wasn't that busy, with only a couple of two-somes spread about the room and I grabbed one of the booths closest to the bar figuring it would come in handy. But then the wait began. Granted, the guy behind the counter hit my table with the menu and took my drink order and had that quickly out, however, that was it for the next ten or so minutes before he came back to take my lunch order. On the flip side, I have to say that he was the only person there to take orders and I even think that he was the one to make the food so I didn't complain that it was a wait. The last time I ate here (which was to go) I had the Steak Fajitas and I almost had them again, although, the menu boosted that their Carna Asada was the most liked item so I went with that. Even though there was a delay in him coming over for the food order I have to ay that the food was brought to my table rather quick. The steak sizzling nicely as he placed it in front of me. A second plate containing all the other amenities that went along with it. All-n-all the food was good but the time it took with being there wasn't. If I hit a place like La Playita I am looking to be in and out quickly most of the time. In other words if you're trying to be the poor man's version of Pepe's invest in at least one other person to work the tables. But hey, that's me. So if you are looking for fast food el-Mexican stop in. Just get your order to go and grab one of the tables that are out front. P.S. their chips and salsa are pretty good as well

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
